Elevated Blood Pressure Through Alcohol

June 27th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

As we progress through various stages of our daily routine and we experience the build up of different stresses that are placed on our bodies this can cause our blood pressure to fluctuate immensely both up and down.

However various physical actions can cause similar problems these could include the consumption of certain food types and the over indulgence of alcohol.

alcohol

Alcohol would be the more serious of these if consumed to excess and on a regular basis.

Repeated over indulgence of alcohol can have significant effects on our health some of which could become serious if not monitored and regulated accordingly.

The continued consumption of alcohol can lead to other medical conditions that may have a direct consequence on your blood pressure levels.

If you are a regular or frequent drinker as a matter of course you should expect to have slightly elevated blood pressure, and over time may experience deterioration in kidney function and possibly other internal organs IE the liver with additional pressure continually being exerted on the associated arteries all of which are closely related to our blood pressure and internal well being.

Best advice would be to regulate alcoholic intake, and depending on your current medical condition it could be advisable to cut it out all together.

A female’s tolerance to alcohol is generally lower than a males therefore similar effects should be expected only on a shorter timescale.

If continued high blood pressure is evident through alcohol, medical advice would likely be to reduce or cut out consumption altogether.

Some weight issues are also directly related to excessive alcohol consumption, this is only to be expected owing to the high sugar content in various alcoholic drinks in particular beers.

Beer tends to settle around your mid rift giving you the famous beer belly which can cause medical issues on its own however more importantly blood pressure levels will be elevated.

The more body fat you carry the more pressure you are placing on you arteries and organs which all contribute to you blood pressure levels.

Because of the relationship between alcohol and blood pressure its very simply a case of over indulge and the blood pressure goes up, reduce the intake and the levels should decrease.

high blood pressure

Alcohol can contribute to various medical conditions, some we can have an element of control over by simply using common sense and moderate what we know is not good for us.

If you suffer from high blood pressure from non alcohol related conditions it would be advisable to seek professional advice regarding consumption of alcohol and suggested amounts.

If you don’t feel the need to seek or want medical advice regarding this topic, but would like further information then you will usually find informative literature in the form of leaflet type handouts at most public areas such as libraries, doctors surgeries and health centres Etc.

A million dollar body, which has a soul and that is what is life. Different parts of our body perform different functions. Out of those several body parts major are Brain and Heart. Heart pumps blood and arteries carry oxygenated blood to different parts of the body. What will happen if something blocks the passage of blood? Heart starts pumping harder, which increases the blood pressure and this is what hypertension is.

In today’s fast life hypertension has become a common word. Adults and even children’s are affected from hypertension. Simple reason for children’s could be stress taken during exams. Adults mostly in the mid 40’s are the most affected population of hypertension mostly because of our modern lifestyle.

pulmonary hypertension

Most of us don’t realize that we are suffering from hypertension.

Because the symptoms are so common like:

How many of us have cared about these symptoms, and thought of hypertension? None of us.

There could be thousand reasons behind this silent killing by hypertension.

To cope up with the fast life, we have chosen fast food, canned food, or ready to eat food to satisfy our appetite. We earn money to afford all the facilities in our life. Running behind money we forget that our mind and body need rest. We stress ourselves too much to meet the deadlines at job. Yes! Stress is one more important factor for hypertension.

Leaving behind eating habits, people who don’t prefer exercise are more susceptible to hypertension that means we have chosen sedentary lifestyle with no physical activity. This is our modern life style leading towards hypertension.

Natural Remedy For Hypertension

May 20th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

Growing up in the last century had many health benefits not readily available in this modern day and age. For those who remember, the Friday night fish fry was one of the greatest social events of the week! It was also one of the healthiest.

Ocean fish, especially high-fat fish from whale and seal meat contain large amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. It is these very important fatty acids that bring a whole lot of health benefits, especially if taken throughout a lifetime.

The most important benefits include a healthy heart and blood vessels. While looking for a cure for high blood pressure and heart disease researchers discovered a several groups of people with healthy hearts. Yet, these people with a low rate of heart attacks and strokes eat a high-fat diet! The diet of both Eskimos and Inuit people include a large amount of high-fat whale and seal meat. Despite their unusual diet, these natives have healthy hearts and low blood pressure!

When searching for a natural remedy for hypertension, look to omega-3 fats as an important foundation for regaining health. Omega-3 fats can reduce hypertension, relieve rheumatoid arthritis, as well as prevent heart attack and stroke.

Two very important components of omega-3 fats are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Both are necessary to strengthen the heart and blood vessels. There are many different types of supplements available in the market, however, it is very important to understand which products provide true benefits.

Omega-3 fats can be found from both plant and marine sources. However, research shows that the fats found in ocean fish and krill contain the best quality of EPA and DHA. To complicate matters, many ocean fish have high levels of mercury in their fatty tissue which is then highly concentrated in the oils extracted from the fish. Studies have shown that high mercury levels can damage the nervous system resulting in cognitive loss, hypertension, heart palpitations, profuse sweating, increased salivation, and loss of feeling in the extremities.

Even though omega-3 fats can be part of a cure for high blood pressure, finding uncontaminated sources of omega-3 fats is essential. There are a few ways to obtain good quality DHA and EPA. The first good quality source of omega-3 fats is wild caught salmon. An occasional meal of wild, not farm raised, salmon can add healthy omega-3 fats to the diet.

Cod liver oil is another good source of omega-3 fats and will also contribute to lower hypertension. However, the amount of cod liver oil to ingest might be a bit too much for some people. For others, the fishy burps and aftertaste are not very pleasant. Flavored cod liver oil might just be the solution to avoid the unpleasant aftertaste. Lemon and orange flavored cod liver oil might eliminate the fishy odor and taste. Make sure to purchase a good quality oil, because the fishy aftertaste could indicate that the oil is old and has become rancid.

Another way to boost DHA and EPA is to take krill oil capsules. Krill are tiny shrimp-like crustaceans that inhabit the cold ocean parts of the world. Krill oil contains vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D, as well as phospholipids and a very potent antioxidant known as astaxanthin. The end result is that krill oil is about 48 times more potent than fish oil and is less likely to go rancid. Krill oil is too low on the food chain to have a lot of mercury contamination so it is a safer choice than cod liver oil. Best of all, because of it’s rapid absorption (due to the phospholipids) krill oils do not seem to have a fishy burp or aftertaste! Krill oil seems to be a great contributor to finding a natural cure for high blood pressure!

The major downside to krill oil is it’s cost. For that reason many people will take a combination of cod liver oil and krill oil to reduce costs. The only other reason to use cod liver oil instead of krill oil is if you are allergic to shrimp.

So, if you’re looking for a natural remedy for high blood pressure, begin by building a healthier body with a good quality source of omega-3 fats like krill oil or cod liver oil. Then discover other natural alternatives for blood pressure control that can safely and easily reduce high blood pressure.

Causes of Hypertension

There are many potential causes of hypertension, and often several factors work in conjunction and lead to an onset of high blood pressure over time. The following is a list of risk factors that increase a person’s chance of having elevated blood pressure:

  • Family history of hypertension (genetic predisposition)African American descent (genetic predisposition)
  • Old age
  • Obesity
  • Renal or kidney failure
  • High daily salt intake
  • Oral contraceptives containing the chemical compound Drospirenone

Some of these factors are impossible to control, but others are avoidable. By watching your weight and the amount of sodium that you consume in your diet, you can reduce your risk of developing hypertension. If you are a woman taking or considering taking birth control, consider talking to your doctor about the hypertension risks associated with Drospirenone-containing pills. If you already fall into one or more risk categories for high blood pressure, it may be in your best interest to consider other contraceptive alternatives.

Consequences of Hypertension

While hypertension can be somewhat mitigated by high blood pressure medication, it can be especially dangerous if left undiagnosed. A patient with untreated high blood pressure is more likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke, or kidney damage. Sadly, many people who suffer severe health problems from hypertension were never aware that they had the condition. It is therefore important that you see your doctor regularly and be checked for high blood pressure. A simple one-minute check for hypertension could save your life.

If you fall into any of the above risk categories that are known to increase your risk for hypertension, talk to your doctor about how you can minimize your chances of developing high blood pressure. Especially if you are an at-risk woman currently taking or considering birth control, it is important to talk to your doctor about the potential adverse side effects of contraceptives containing Drospirenone.
