Maybe you carried something too heavy or went a little too hard on the tennis court. It may have just been as simple as overworking at your desk trying to meet your boss’s demands. Anyway, your back is now screaming at you and you are looking for back pain remedies.
Not to fear, many have been down this path before you. Statistics reveal about 8 out of 10 people have some form of back pain at least once in their lives. The old belief was that bed rest, be it for a few days or even weeks was among the best back pain remedies. As tempting as this may be it is the worst thing you can do. Research is demonstrating that extended bed rest does not speed up recover it may even make it worse. I know it can be difficult but you should try to have some gentle walks as often as possible. If you rest too much your back muscle are very quick to get lazy and will start to provide less support for your already sore back and this can lead to more instability and pain. Lying flat on your back may be difficult for some, so when on your back you can have some pillows under your knees and this will reduce stress on the lower back. Do not be tempted to lie on your stomach as this will force your neck into an unnatural position in order for you to breathe.
Getting adequate sleep is one of the simplest back pain remedies that are often over looked. It is important when you are in pain and the body is healing. Probably the best position to lie in is on your side, with the knees slightly bent and a pillow between them. This is especially important for females who have wide hips and it can help reduce any strain on the lower back. As before if you sleep on your back, pillows under the knees may be helpful.
Back pain remedies can also be found in the kitchen. The use of Epsom salts can be beneficial for decreasing pain and muscular spasm because of their high magnesium content. You can fill up a bath as you normally would and just add them to the bath. Be careful you may require assistance in and out of the bath tub. The root ginger is a great back pain remedy, it has long been a popular cure for nausea but it also has mild aspirin effects and anti-inflammatory properties. When having back discomfort, just use 1-2 inches (2.5-5cm) of ginger and finely slice it into about 1 quart (1 litre) of boiling water. Gently simmer this with a cover on for about half an hour. Let it cool down and strain it. Sweeten with honey if needed to drink.
