Healthy Insulin Levels

Healthy insulin levels are very important to have and maintain no matter your age or level of physical health. The reason for this is insulin is the major factor to consider in people who are diabetic or pre-diabetic. Insulin in too great a quantity often suggests that your body has slowly started resisting insulin and it requires more of it to metabolize blood sugar and remove it from your blood stream.

The opposite problem is usually what occurs in people with type-1 diabetes. This is where levels of insulin are too low because the body is not capable of producing enough insulin to regulate blood sugar. People with this condition for the most part have to supplement or inject insulin to maintain healthy insulin levels. Unfortunately this can cause problems if too much insulin is injected as you do want some sugar in your blood just not too much.

Maintaining healthy levels of insulin outside of the realm of diabetes however are usually restricted to pre-diabetic conditions such as insulin resistance. In fact insulin resistance is one of the most significant warning signs for diabetes and a simple blood sugar test might not be enough to diagnose insulin resistance. The reason for this is that your pancreas may be producing a lot of insulin to keep your blood sugar levels down. If this happens and you test your blood sugar levels it won’t appear there is any problem.
