Work Causes Depression

March 30th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

Oh! The topic about depression really becomes very interesting for me. Maybe it is even good that I lost my job because I have found another interest in my live. Moreover, now I have time to analyze or even start a research to identify what factors cause of depression. I hope that some people who are also suffered from depression can share with me their experience how they get over difficult times in the lives and find the way to happiness.

work causes depression

Today I understand that after the loosing of my job and without everyday “dating” with my boss I have become more patient and I am not nervous anymore. Almost nothing irritates me neither my wife’s chatter nor traffic jams.

I worry that if I find new job my depression again return to me. I do not want it! I would like to work but I do not like to be in depression. I think that work is the main cause of depression!

Moreover, I can provide some reasons. In order to go to work you should get up at 5 am at least. It means that five days a week you sleep maximum five hours because in order to reach your home after working day you should spent minimum two hours.

In addition, even if you are at home at least five hours you should spent with your children and wife, doesn’t it?

For example, every day about 3 hours I spent with my children because they would like to tell me how they spent their day, what difficulties they face. Very often they ask my advice to solve some problems. I hope that I am a good Daddy!

Oh! Furthermore, during the working day you should listen your colleagues or their stories about how they spend holidays, where they buy this or that or how is crazy her boyfriend! Why do they think that it is interesting for me! Sometimes I would like to run away only not to listen them!

Finally, I can make a conclusion ))) The main reason of depression is work!

We all know that any aerobic exercise, and especially running, is great for your cardiovascular health. However, not as many people are fully aware of just how strong the link between exercise and an improved mood can truly be. Keeping yourself in shape and engaging in regular physical activity can be extremely beneficial in helping those suffering from depression, to stay on an even keel. Running and depression are closely linked; taking up jogging or running could actually help you reduce your medicinal intake or even possibly eliminate the need altogether. While running against depression may not cure a chemical imbalance, it can certainly help in reducing the severity, as well as the frequency of any occurrences.

How Running Helps Depression

Exercise helps boost the levels of mood-enhancing chemicals in the body, and helps release adrenaline, not to mention all the stress and tension built up in the body. This means less anxiety and feeling better over-all. However, you can’t just take up an exercise program at random and get all the benefits. For example, exercising for 4 hours a day for a week will probably make you feel great…for a few days.

For long-term benefits, running against depression needs to be on a regular schedule; it really needs to be done every day, or at least every other day. Once the exercise level drops, so does your mood. Think of it this way; think of the endorphins released during running exercise in the same way that you’d think of medications for depression – you have to take them regularly for them to really work.

Running against Depression – Simple, Right?

running against depression

Of course, simply telling someone who’s been suffering with depression that if they were to start running all their problems would magically disappear, is an overly simplistic approach. Many depressed people have trouble getting out of bed each day, much less the ambition to start a running program. Running remains a better solution for people with a mild or dysthymic depression, or for depression sufferers who are in one of their better periods.

Incorporating a running routine into their daily life now may just help them ward off future bouts with depression. Although for the severely depressed, conventional treatment methods will generally still be necessary, they will be much relieved.

Ready To Start Running Against Depression?

If you suffer from depression, and are ready to start running against it, you need to start the correct way. Take the time to think about your schedule, your current fitness level, and the available places for running in your area. If you live in a highly populated area with a lot of traffic, you may need to travel in order to run, or you might want to consider a treadmill or gym for your exercise sessions.

Start small, 5 or 10 minutes at first and build your way up to longer runs. After all, it’s not the intensity of the exercise that counts – it’s doing it in the first place! While running against depression isn’t a universal solution or cure-all for depression, it is really remarkable just how often it works! It can also be an excellent stress management tool for long time sufferers.

If you have mild symptoms of depression, it will definitely boost your state of mind by taking up this daily exercise. It has a multitude of physical, and mental health benefits. So, do yourself a huge favor, take some time and look for room in your schedule to include a daily run…you’ll be truly amazed at your new outlook on life!

Back Pain and Rheumatoid Arthritis

March 30th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

This form of arthritis can cause back pain. Your doctor will talk about it, but it may be obvious if you have R.A. This disease is a systemic one which causes joint inflammation. It is linked to autoimmune diseases or genetics. Inflammation of ligaments, bones and cartilage can cause destruction or reduced capability. Calcification occurs. This is abnormal hardening and it can cause swelling and joint stiffness. Your doctor considers symptoms first, then can offer a diagnosis.

If a person has R.A., they may have an eating disorder such as anorexia, experience malaise, fatigue, subcutaneous modules (i.e. under the skin), a limited range of motion, pain and swollen joints, and rises in body temperature. Stiffness may occur while a person is awake. People with R.A. may show signs of crepitus, inflamed lymph nodes, pericarditis, leukopenia and splenomegaly. Pericarditis is the condition that causes swelling. With swelling, your back is usually affected. R.A. in itself causes stiffness of the joints and muscles and this can cause a lot of pain. Other sources can be from injury or infections.

Doctors conduct tests to see if a person has R.A. These may include latex fixation, x-rays, gamma globulin, hematology (blood) and synovial fluid analysis test. If some of these tests show spacing between narrow joints, platelet or WBC or ESR increases, erosion of bones, increases in IgM and IgG and decrease of opaqueness and viscosity, then R.A. may be indicated. Management, interventions, stress reduction and many other treatments may be put into place. Heat and cold together with gold therapy can be used. Gold therapy is used to prevent in infections from reaching the inner central muscle layers and therefore, the walls of the heart.

Skin and emotional care are also often prescribed. An arthritis foundation will provide a lot more information to help you to cope. Stress-reduction therapy may be prescribed by your doctor. Patients will also be taught to try and avoid infections, colds and fake remedies for R.A. The environment also plays a big part in R.A. You can reduce swelling, redness and pain by performing motion exercises and trying warm compresses or heat therapy. Start stretching exercises and avoid people who get your emotions up too far. Seek emotional and mental support if you have R.A. Try not to suppress your emotions too much as this leads to chemical imbalance and stress.

Perhaps the practice of yoga will lead to a calmer environment. A few basic moves are easy to learn. Take care of your feet and skin. If you can control your R.A. then surgery may not be needed. R.A. can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome and we all need to use our hands so controlling that is critical. Pain may spread out from the carpal tunnel syndrome affected area to other parts of your body. Besides R.A., gouty arthritis can also cause back pain. Any form of arthritis limits movement, and this leads to damage in joints, cartilage, connective tissue, bones, muscles, etc. Back pain can soon follow.

How to Stop Snoring

March 29th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

Efforts to guarantee a good snooze needs to be complimented with snoring remedies and cures. It is not only a discomfort but could be a ticking time bomb of an underlying serious health condition.

Personalized sound of snoring

Not all remedies could work for everyone who snores. Better do an observation before trying out cures which can get frustrating if the cause is not identified at first. Make use of a video recorder that you can set-up before closing your eyes or have your sleeping companion do a checklist of factors that contributes to this sleeping condition.

It helps to take note that snoring is mainly caused by any narrowing on the passage of air through your throat. There are different contributing aspects of why this could happen to someone. It can be hereditary, age, weight, sedative intake, allergies, sleeping position, among others. Notice that the tissue on the throat portion is soft. Because of this, it is prone to swelling or enlargement and if that happens even sleeping on your back can make the airway tighter leading to friction of muscles that in turn becomes the sound of snoring.

Switch off Snoring

Maybe you are not directly affected by your own snoring but it backtracks one way or another. It has been a serious matter in relationships when spouse or partners cannot afford to stay in the same room because one will snore and the other will suffer. It needs to be attended urgently as well for it might be a symptom of a disorder like Apnea.

remedies of snoring

Given here are some of the most tested snoring remedies and cures:

Proper weight and healthy lifestyle – Start with the basic. Get a calculation of the appropriate weight for your age, height, and activities. Too much fat in the body could make the tissue on your neck or throat swells up as well as sedentary lifestyle that lacks exercise. Smoking, drinking several types of alcohol, or using sedative-filled pills and drug contributes largely to get someone to snore.

Try another bed position plus head elevation- If upon observation it came out that snoring only takes place on sleeping on your back then lie face down or took the side posture. Make sure that your pillow keeps the head elevated in a way that your throat will not feel any contraction.

Use devices, spray, or other medications – As the goal is to keep the throat muscle from contracting then trying out dental devices or spray for the throat can give a quick relief to your snoring. Better pass through an expert consultation before buying one.

Surgical procedures – Permanently widening the portion that blocks the air hole can be done with surgery on those tissue channels. For sure it will cost a bit more but being free from the inconvenience of snoring is worth it.

Non-surgical and drug free options – Consult a homeopathic expert for a suitable mixture of herbal remedy. In some cases, hypnotic sessions can also stop the cause of snoring. Either way, these methods are relative to a person’s condition.

If after testing simple snoring remedies and cures does not give wanted result then get an expert such as an ENT to assess your condition. Medical experts can gauge and prescribed personalized treatment on how to stop snoring right down to its source.

Ovarian Cyst Remedy

March 29th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

Ovarian cysts are developed on the female reproductive organs (ovaries) which are fluid-filled sacs. As the ovaries are setting up eggs to discharge into the fallopian tube during the menstrual cycle, the more high risk women can get the chance to build up the cyst. Many of those are not harmful (benign) but some can pose threat to health that makes it malignant. The cysts contain tissue like hair, teeth, bone and develop at the ages of 20 to 40. Whenever it cuts off the passage to ovaries, the patient may experience pain and with further diagnosis, it may lead to operation procedure.

ovarian cyst

The kind of cyst will be depending on the symptoms patient are experiencing. Some women may feel the signs from mild to severe. It may not be noticeable all the time but there are common warning signs you can observe.

Here are some ovarian cyst symptoms:

  • Breast tenderness
  • Lower backache and on the upper legs
  • Irregularity and abnormalities in menstrual cycle
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Abdominal pressure
  • Gain weight
  • Urinal urgency or problems passing urine
  • Painful in sexual function

If the cysts get worse, severe manifestations will occur such as:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Rapid breathing
  • Vomiting
  • Relentless abdominal pressure and pain

Consulting to doctor and undergo series of examinations will confirm the correct diagnosis base on the symptoms that are mentioned above. Routine ultrasound exam may help detect if there is any development of cyst inside the ovaries. It will play the major role in confirming the level of doubt with regards to any serious ovarian growth. Appearance of a collapsed sac with free fluid in the cavity can be detected by the ultrasound.

Ultrasound images of ovarian cysts:

Getting consultation from someone with medical background can help women get through this. It could easily disrupt their lives and making sure to handle the symptoms with outmost care is imperative and should not be taken for granted. If the symptoms are suspicious, another examination will perform to make sure if the cyst is already malignant. Surgical operation such as Laparoscopy is often done if the stage is still benign. The incision is above the navel while the patient is under general anesthesia. In cases that there is larger mass in the ultrasound and higher CA-125 in the blood exam, removal of ovaries is considered to prevent the cyst to metastasis outside the ovaries and some other parts of the body. The surgical procedure will be hysterectomy and ophorectomy as the suggested method.

Always seek for the professional advice before starting any therapy or any changes to the existing treatment. Never delay or disregard the advice that will be given or to worsen the situation. The risk of getting an ovarian cyst is very common to all women regardless of age, ethnicity and health condition. This useful information will help all the females to handle the ovarian cyst symptoms very well and never ever take this for granted.

If you are looking for an effective and safe ovarian cyst remedy, you should consider trying natural remedies. Natural remedies, herbal remedies in particular, are known to treat and cure the cysts in the ovaries very effectively. So, you can consult a qualified naturopath and try to find a solution to this problem naturally.

Chaste berry, raspberry, licorice, ginseng, fennel, sage, red clover, black cohosh, milk thistle, wild yam, dandelion, and bee pollen are some of the most powerful natural substances that are used very commonly in treating the cysts in the ovaries. These herbs regulate the menstrual cycle, restore hormonal balance, cure menopausal problems, cleanse the liver, and improve your overall health. Bach flower remedies are also used in the treatment of cysts commonly. They complement the herbs mentioned above and restore health and vitality in the affected person’s body. So, apart from a natural ovarian cyst remedy, you can also try some Bach flower remedies like red chestnuts, walnuts, wild oats, impatiens, and honeysuckle.

The food that you eat plays a very important role in the treatment of ovarian cysts. Herbalists suggest that it is not advisable to eat meat and cheese based dishes during the treatment. They suggest eating a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains while taking a natural ovarian cyst remedy. It is also advisable to avoid sugar and white flour to the extent possible. Eating garlic and onions can be very beneficial as they are rich in bioflavonoids. Similarly, seasonal fruits cherries and berries can also be very beneficial in the treatment of ovarian cysts. The reason why these fruits and vegetables are good for your body is that they have anti inflammatory properties.

So, they reduce inflammation and prevent the damage caused by the harmful free radicals in your body. They also play a very important role in preserving estrogen function in your body. This is the reason why naturopaths advise people to eat a diet rich in these fruits and vegetables, apart from taking a natural ovarian cyst remedy.

The herbal remedies prescribed by naturopaths can be taken in the form of capsules, tea, or in the form of a tincture. In some cases, they also prescribe herbal creams that need to be applied externally in your body. When applied on the thighs and hips regularly, these creams can regulate the levels of hormones in your body. So, basically, a natural ovarian cyst remedy is a combination of dietary modifications, herbal capsules, and herbal creams.

Eating Disorders and Diets

March 29th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

Many people if asked could not tell the difference between someone who is on a diet and someone who is suffering from an eating disorder. They are however two very different things though. A diet is used as a means to lower your weight in a healthy manner; a disorder however, is an illness which effects the self esteem of the individual suffering from it in a very dangerous way.

The most well know of all these disorders is Anorexia Nervosa. The name itself means ‘a lack of desire to eat’. People who have Anorexia Nervosa experience obsessive feelings of self loathing. The only time they feel good about themselves is when they are starving. No matter how thin an anorexic becomes, their body dimorphic disorder is so strong they still believe themselves to be fat.

Commonly linked to Anorexia is Bulimia Nervosa. It shares some of Anorexia’s features especially the sufferers’ low self esteem. The difference is food is used by the Bulimic as a comfort and is not avoided at all. Bulimics are able to ingest as much food as they wish and rid themselves of it soon afterwards by taking laxatives or making themselves vomit it up again, this is known as purging.

Another closely linked eating disorder is Compulsive Eating Disorder. In many ways this is very similar to Bulimia and to Anorexia, the factor that sets it aside from both of these is that sufferers do not purge.

Compulsive sufferers consume and keep all the food they eat. Their days can revolve around nothing but food, from reading about it, to cooking to planning the next meal or snack. Some of the world’s heaviest people suffer from this disorder, which is fundamentally an addiction to food.

Next we have Binge Eating Disorder, again very similar to Compulsive Eating Disorder. It differs in the frequency in which food is consumed and in its secretive nature. Binge eaters will meticulously plan their binging and store large quantities of food away to eat all in one sitting when they know they will be alone.

The same issues with self esteem are very apparent in this illness and the shame the binge eater feels at eating beyond their own bodies calorific needs leads of a cycle of yet more comfort eating. Much like the compulsive sufferer the binge eater will not purge but rather keeps the calories. The only reason they are not generally as large as the compulsive disorder sufferers is they binge less frequently.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Diet

March 28th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

Have you ever wondered why western society is increasingly becoming so obese? Have you ever wondered why children in western countries are increasingly falling prey to dangerous diseases like obesity, juvenile diabetes and even type 2 diabetes? Why are so many people falling prey to diseases such as heart attacks, strokes, cardiac arrests, rheumatism, arthritis, polycystic ovary and even dying?

You don’t have to probe too deeply to find an answer. The main culprit is our terrible diet along with our unhealthy lifestyle. Have you ever spared a thought about your diet? What does your diet consist of?

It’s mainly a meat based diet loaded with mutton, chicken, beef, pork, bacon, salami and other kinds of red meat washed down with different kinds of spirits and alcohol. Along with that we are always consuming fast food, restaurant food, junk food, oily spicy gravy laden food items, fattening food items loaded with cheese and mayonnaise. Burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, French fries, colas and deep fried items now form our staple diet.

And to expiate for our sins, we guzzle down ounces of diet colas and sprinkle a bit of parsley leaves and lettuce leaves on our fast food! No wonder we are so diseased! This is the perfect recipe for falling ill and inviting a host of diseases in our lives.

Hopefully you can now realize how diet is the main reason for being fat. You have to understand that we are designed to eat vegetables and combine diet and vegetables and we ought to have a weight loss diet that drops the weight and gives back to us a healthy feeling and a more fulfilling life.

Of course, being on a vegetarian weight loss diet doesn’t mean you have to forgo taste and sacrifice all the good things in life. A vegetarian weight loss diet can be very tasty and yummy. Following is a healthy diet plan based on vegan food items. I can assure you that you will lick your fingers by following this vegetarian weight loss diet.

Diet plan for vegetarian weight loss diet

You can follow this healthy diet for the rest of your life. For your main meals such as lunch and dinner, you can choose from an endless selection of foods such as frozen yogurt, yogurt, unsweetened curd, probiotic fat free ice cream, probiotic fat free dairy products, legumes, beans, green leafy and colored vegetables, smoothies, fruit juices, fruits, cereals, tacos, tortillas, pasta, brown rice, potatoes and brown bread or whole wheat bread.

Breast Lift Surgery

March 28th, 2010 Dan Hicks No comments

Saggy breast is one common problem for women nowadays. Gravity, weight loss, aging are common factors for the development of droopy breasts. Good news is that mastopexy or most commonly known as breast lifting is now available in the Philippines to bring back firmer and shapelier breasts. The procedures on how mastopexy is done vary from surgeon to surgeon and the degree of the work that should be done. However, the following procedures were provided to give an idea on how breast lifting in the Philippines was usually performed.

There are variations of techniques that can be used in mastopexy such as the concentric or doughnut breast lift and the anchor shaped breast lift. The first method is usually done for patients who have smaller and less severely drooping breasts while those women with larger or more severely drooping, sagging breasts would be advised to have the anchor-shaped breast lift.
In concentric breast lift technique, concentric circles are drawn and cut around the areola. This concentric shaped skin surrounding the areola will be removed and the nipple and areola are moved upwards.

Following the movement of the nipple and areola, the outer skin surrounding the areola is sutured into place. This method results less scarring than the other technique of breast lifting.
In the anchor-shaped mastopexy, the surgeon will draw a “key-hole” shape directly above the nipple and the areola. Then, at the bottom of the key-hole, your doctor will draw an anchor shape from the right to the left side of the breast. The skin in the (upper cross-hatched) area of the “anchor” will be removed along with some excess breast tissue. The nipple and areola are moved up to the (lower cross-hatched) “key-hole,” then the skin is sutured around the areola, vertically down to the chest, and side to side along the newly-created bottom fold of the breast.

In either way, the breast lift surgery usually takes one to three hours to finish for both breasts. You will experience soreness and bruising for two to three days. Your surgeon will give you some medication to lessen the pain and to hasten the healing process. You will also be advised to wear a surgical bra for a couple of weeks to support your breasts. The gauze dressing will be removed after a couple of days, and the stitches are also removed about two weeks after breast lift surgery. Listen carefully to your surgeon on what are the things that you have to be careful of to avoid any complications. He/she will also provide you the schedule on when you could go back to your normal activities.
