Depression management

November 30th, 2009 No comments

Stress is a normal response of the body when a person encounters a situation where anxiety and worries may result from the situation. This is considered normal until it reaches two weeks. However, when the condition persists for more than two weeks, the condition should be investigated if a simple stress has elevated to a depression. How do we recognize manage depression when it is discovered?

The symptoms of stress and depression are almost similar. The patient has feelings of moodiness, weight problems, headaches and sleeping problems when he is stress. However, when the condition is called depression, the focus of the condition is having the feelings of helplessness, low self-esteem or self-worth, self-loathing or self-guilt, loss of energy and the motivation to continue with his daily activities. Suicidal thoughts are a symptom of severe depression and should be taken seriously.

Rates of depression in women are twice as high as they are in men. This is due in part to hormonal factors. Before we are able to know how to manage depression, we should first understand the different types of depression.

Depression is extreme sadness and a recurring disorder. Some types of depression can be seasonal or can happen only during a specific period of time. Some of these are SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder and postpartum depression. SAD or commonly known as winter blues happens when sunlight is limited. This can be remedied with light therapy. On the other hand, postpartum depression is experienced by women who had just given birth. This condition often stays longer from weeks to months. Other types of depression are atypical depression and dysthymia, or dysthymic disorder is a mild depression that lasts for at least two years, sometimes called the double depression.

Depression can be treated with effective counseling so as to know the cause and how to manage depression. However, there are instances where counseling might not be enough so as the need for medication is suggested to speed up recovery.

Health Risks of Hypertension and Diabetes

November 30th, 2009 No comments

It’s known that hypertension itself significantly increases these risks, too. Unfortunately, the two diseases often go hand-in-hand and more then two-thirds of people diabetics also suffer from high blood pressure, HBP. As a result they have a compounded risk of various medical conditions.

LifeWire – It’s common that people with diabetes with all the attention paid to blood glucose level overlook closely associated medical condition – Hypertension.

A Lower Blood Pressure Goal for People with Diabetes

Health care providers usually recommend diabetics will keep their blood pressure, BP, even lower than most adults under 130/80 mm/Hg. According to the recommendations of Diabetes Association (ADA) people with diabetes should get their BP checked at least two to four times per year.

Lifestyle Changes for High Blood Pressure Control

The only good thing about diabetes is that the lifestyle changes to help control HBP and diabetes are pretty much the same. Additionally these help control blood cholesterol levels, too.

Diet

The recommended diet for people with diabetes include: a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lower-fat proteins (dairy, fish and nuts), and unsaturated fats. Since carbohydrates can contribute to the elevated blood sugar level attention must also be paid to carbohydrate consumption. But, all over, this is the same basic diet that is effective for diabetes management.

The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet plan recommended for controlling HBP puts the same emphasis on fresh and low fat food choices. Additionally it also limits sodium consumption to only 2,400 milligrams per day. That way the DASH diet help in controlling both diabetes and high blood pressure.

Exercise

The required modifications in lifestyle recommended for diabetes pretty much similar to those for hypertension. A brisk walk for 30 minutes for five days per week can help manage and reduce risk for both conditions.

Weight Control

Excess weight and obesity significantly raises the risk for both diabetes and hypertension. Achieve calorie balance – if you take in the less number of calories a day that you usually burn to maintain a daily activities will help you lose the extra pounds and achieve your optimal weight. This will help control both conditions.

No Smoking

Smoking is a powerful risk factor for heart disease — and both diabetes and HBP raise the risk of developing heart disease – if you are diagnosed as diabetic, it’s crucial to stop smoking as soon as possible.

Medications May Be Required

Although these lifestyle changes help vast majority of people control high blood pressure and/or diabetes, in some cases even the most sincere efforts at lifestyle modification won’t be enough to take control of your blood pressure. In such cases, your doctor may recommend taking medications.

According the long experience in treating HBP and diabetes it’s have found that most diabetics have to take more than one medication to control high blood pressure.

Molluscum Infection

November 28th, 2009 No comments

Molluscum, or Molluscum Contagiosum, is a disease that affects a great number of people in the United States and other parts of the world. Molluscum is a contagious viral disease of the skin that may be mistaken for warts. Warts are caused by human papillomaviruses (HPV), while Molluscum Contagiosum is caused by a pox virus. It consists of small, harmless growths caused by a virus from the poxvirus family. These growths look like pink pimples with a waxy look, and are common among children. The growths are frequently seen on the neck, face, arm pit, hands, and arms. Similar to warts, Molluscum virus enters the skin through pores or small breaks of hair follicles. Although contagious, it is not a serious disease and usually clears up in a few months. However, it can last for up to two years.

There are four types of Molluscum virus: MCV-1 to -4. Among the four types, the MCV-1 is the most prevalent and MCV-2 appears usually in adults. The incidence of Molluscum Contagiosum infections in young children, between 2-12 years of age, is approximately 17%. Most of these incidents have been reported from hot and humid tropical countries. Kids who are between the ages of 2 to 12 are more prone to the disease. When a child has Molluscum Contagiosum, small bumps appear on the legs, body, arms and even the eyelids. These bumps are shaped like dome and look like pearls.

Though this disease mostly affects children, experts believe that adults who have a weak immune system are also more prone to the Molluscum virus. Experts believe that this disease is also related to the immune system. In adults, Molluscum infections are often contagious and usually affect the lower abdomen, genitals, inner thighs, and buttocks. Molluscum infections may also appear on the mouth and lips.

In case of adults, transmission can also be made through sexual contact with an infected individual. Molluscum Contagiosum is among the widest spread sexually transmitted diseases. Although the Molluscum virus can be acquired through direct sexual intercourse, anyone living with an affected person is still prone to acquiring the virus. The disease can be acquired by sharing common such as swimming pool, school, or health club, school. It can also be acquired through sharing like sharing toys and using the same towel.

Treatment for Molluscum Contagiosum varies. Unless the person has been scratching at the lesions, no inflammations or redness appears. In the mature Molluscum, small waxy core can be squeezed out of the lesion by pricking the top of the nodule with a sterile needle. Health care professionals treat Molluscum Contagiosum through freezing off or cleaning out the bumps. Bumps can also be removed through lasers or treated with creams. These bumps normally hear on their own in a few months to a year or two if left untreated.

The good news is that once the pearl shaped bumps are gone, Molluscum is not contagious, although the Molluscum virus is not completely eliminated from the body.

Some causes of obesity

November 28th, 2009 No comments

With so many weight loss supplements on the market, no wonder a potential weight loser finds himself or herself in a dilemma what to choose. Some of those products and the documentations that come with them are so confusing that you have to be a new Einstein in order to understand what it’s all about. First there are so many approaches to losing weight and the approaches do not depend on individual wish or option but on the sources.

I mean sources because you have to know exactly what the cause of obesity is in the first place then you go on and tackle the problem right from the root. In this article, I will try to demystify and clarify the steps one by one.

Causes Of Obesity:
This is the most important factor if you want to fight obesity. Knowing your enemy and from where he comes make defeating him an easy task.

Many people put on extra weight because they just can not refrain from putting anything that spells food into their mouth. They nip on peanuts, cookies, and all sorts of junk food just to be happy. In Eastern Europe, people much away on fried sunflower seeds which is very very addictive. The question is, are they really happy? This mania is in a layman’s dictionary simply called food craving. They are not hungry nor do they lack the necessary nutrients to keep the body going but they just must munch. This may be due to psychological factors which are not in the scope of this article. Stay tuned for that in my later articles.

OK we have found our first enemy now what?
There are many ways to combat food cravings. If you have ever heard of the term “self discipline”, this is where you can put it to task. A good way to determine whether you are self disciplined or not and this phenomenon is not peculiar only to weight loss but to almost every other aspects in life. The most successful people have a high degree of self discipline no matter in what arena. A little bit of philosophy there.

First the hardest part is to refrain. Try as hard as you can to take your eyes off those things you love to eat. 3-5 seconds are enough to break your defense. If you can get your eyes off and stay off then you’ve just made your first step towards defeating food craving.

Next, if you are the working type, direct your thoughts only to your work. Don’t if you can afford it engage in those work place gossips as in the meantime a colleague may offer you something you will find hard to refuse.

Don’t keep coins and changes in your wallet. Yes, at the office, there is that slot machine just by the entrance. If you have quarters etc. you will be tempted to slot in and then you have fallen.

As a last resort. If you have expended all your efforts to quit munching and not enough will power to refrain fro food cravings, then there are the options of organic products that can help you curb those food cravings.

Childhood Anxiety Disorder Treatment

November 28th, 2009 No comments

Thousands of children suffer from anxiety every year while going undetected by parents. More often than not, children are not properly educated on anxiety and therefore cannot express their concerns accordingly. Consequently, their anxiety levels rise as they continue to hold it all in.

A large number of children go through school either having to deal with bullies or feel left out of social circles which can lead to depression. This feeling of depression will inevitably follow them home as their family begins to finally take notice.

As parents, it is very important to monitor their behaviours at home and school before it gets late. Here are some important techniques to follow in treating and prevent anxiety or panic disorders.

Listen Up

Make a concentrated effort to listen to any concerns they might have good or bad. Do not interrupt them, instead hear them out and see what side they are coming from. Follow this up with positive and constructive advice, by doing this it will make them more comfortable in sharing their problems with you.

Open Up

Most parents are so busy correcting and scolding their children, they don’t realise this is only causing the child to become more stressed out and distant. As a result, the child will not share their problems and start being quiet around the house. One of the best ways to get a child out of their quiet mode is to share stories of yourself at their age and how you might have went through similar troubles and can relate to their circumstance. This will cause the child to feel like they are not alone, and as a result open up more.

Seek and Learn Natural Treatment

If your child is suffering from an anxiety or panic disorder, the last thing you want is to have them dependent on prescriptions drugs for the rest of their lives. Seek out natural treatments and learn step by step techniques on how to treat their conditions before it gets any worse, this way you can be their doctor as oppose to waiting in line to get a bottle of pills.
Anxiety and Panic disorders can get a lot worse if there not treated properly. Nobody wants to change their quality of living but panic attacks can certainly do that to us if we don’t take action. These techniques are very helpful but they are only part of the recovery process.

Rheumatoid arthritis treatment

November 27th, 2009 No comments

Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disorder, is a disease where a person’s own body attacks itself, causing widespread tissue damage. Reactions, sometimes referred to as flare ups, can be caused by a variety of reasons. A person can have a reaction to the stress in their life, infection or even an injury. The traditional treatment for autoimmune diseases, such as arthritis is immunosuppressing medicines. But these medications can be toxic if used for an extended period of time. If at all possible try to use drugs that are not as strong to avoid dependency. Also if you use these drugs for too long, the body will build up a resistance, making them far less successful. Also if a person becomes accustomed to these type of treatments, they will be far less likely to find relief with a natural treatment.

Changes in a person’s lifestyle can help boost the immunity, and there are many strategies that will help with the control of the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Some of the natural remedies and suggestions for the control of the symptoms of an autoimmune disorder are. Eat a diet that is high in carbohydrates, and low in protein. This is accomplished by minimizing the consumption of animal products such as red meat and processed foods. Eliminate all milk and milk containing products. This includes the commercial foods that include milk as an ingredient.

Polyunsaturated oils, such as vegetable oil, vegetable shortening and margarine. Partially hydrogenated oils should be avoided in any form.Caffeine and tobacco are also on the list of substances that can cause a flare up.

A good practice is to increase the intake of omega 3 fatty acids, this can be accomplished by adding more walnuts, freshly prepared flax seeds and fish that are found in colder waters. A fish oil supplement is a good choice for persons who do not like the foods that are naturally high in omega 3. If a person controls the diet in this fashion the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis can possibly be lessened without medications.

Aerobic exercise such as swimming are good for persons with Rheumatoid Arthritis. The water lessens the stress on painful joints. psychological therapy, hypnotherapy and visualization are good for the emotion stresses in a persons life. Eliminate the following foods for 8 weeks, then add them back one by one, this will allow you to find the specific triggers for your symptoms:

1. sugars, all but natural sugars in certain fruit,

2. citrus fruit,

3. soy, wheat and corn.

Fever few is an herb that has shown success in treating the symptoms, as have the following anti inflammatory herbs; turmeric, and ginger. With the proper treatments, you may find your symptoms becoming fewer and less severe.

Conquering Acne

November 27th, 2009 No comments

Everyone is faced with the predicament of how to conquer acne. In order to overcome it, one must first learn how to accept it. This means one must not only seek prevention or cure for acne, but also learn to adjust socially despite this stigma.

Both boys and girls suffering from acne are faced with the possibility of being teased, or worse, socially isolated because of their skin condition. A good example of how acne can ruin not only one’s features, but also social influence is exhibited in the story of Chelsea Fahey.

As a child model, Chelsea garnered ten beauty pageant awards. Her fame culminated in her winning the Miss Teen America 2004 title. However, just after she entered 7th grade, she was bombarded with acne.

“I used to hide my face behind my hair. I didn’t want to see people’s reactions, so I always looked down. I didn’t want to see people wincing”,

recalls Chelsea, who is presently eighteen years old. This demonstrates the negative effect acne has on someone’s emotions and personality.

The Academy of Dermatology states that almost all teens ranging from twelve to seventeen years old are bound to have acne, and forty percent of them will most likely be plagued with the severe type. Not only will they be subject to mere pimples, but to intense physical as well as emotional scarring.

“Because I didn’t want to date anyone, neither did I have that many friends. I hated touching my face, and I hated looking at mirrors. It was really a sorrowful time for me”, says Chelsea.

She went to the extent of covering all mirrors in their house, because she could not bear to look at herself. She resorted to so many cures to acne, such as creams, facial washes, special makeup, pills, but none of these solved her acne problem. Chelsea did not even want to address the problem even to her own mother. She mistakenly thought that if she tried talking about it, she was succumbing to her acne problem. She didn’t want to add any more to her problems as a teenager.

Chelsea’s mother was correct, though: the more Chelsea denied her acne problem, the more she was succumbing to it. In order to start walking the long road to acne resolution, one has first to admit that acne truly is a pervasive problem.

Healthy Food to Prevent Cancer

November 27th, 2009 No comments

The American Cancer Society states that the Global Perspective has found that 30-40 percent of cancers can be linked to diet. Some people avoid eating a cancer preventing diet by using the excuse? Everything we eat causes cancer? That really isn’t a true statement. There are many foods that can be included in the diet that will help prevent cancer. Having a varied diet that plant-based will help prevent cancer. Plant based foods include the following:

Grains, Vegetables, Fruits, Legumes Of course diet alone will not prevent cancer. Maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly will also help prevent some cancers. How does eating Italian fit into a diet designed to prevent cancer? Italian food has many plant-based dishes and the sauces are full of plant-based ingredients. One example is Italian tomato sauce (aka spaghetti sauce) that is used for a base for many Italian dishes.

Tomato sauces not only have tomatoes, but may also have spinach, peppers, and onions. There are many herbs in an Italian tomato sauce to give the sauce flavor. Italian tomato sauce is often served over pasta, which is made from grain so it also fits into a cancer preventing diet. Some of the Italian dishes that are plant based and can be included in a cancer prevention diets: Lasagna , Egg Plant parmesan , Manicotti , Ravioli , Antipasto, Stuffed shells.

Many Italian sauces and Italian dishes that include meat can be made without meat (vegetarian) to be a healthier meal choice. Extra vegetable can be added to any Italian sauce to add variety and add more cancer preventing ingredients. Also, though it will change the taste, tofu can be used instead of ricotta cheese. Another variation to make Italian food even healthier is to use pastas that are made with whole grains. Homemade Italian food will not need preservatives and chemicals, so it will be a healthy addition to any diet. Not everyone has the time or skills to prepare and cook Italian food, so they will need to find a good Italian restaurant near their home. For those who live in the Miami or Davis, Florida area, Italian food can be enjoyed at Mama Jennie?s Italian Restaurant. It can be eaten in their Italian restaurant or ordered as take out to eat at home.

Genital herpes pain control

November 27th, 2009 No comments

A genital herpes breakout is certainly not a fun time in any sufferer’s life. Whether the symptoms are light or severe, the discomfort, pain and itching that comes along with genital herpes lesions can really disrupt your life. The following are just a few ways you can help relieve pain and inflammation, reduce itching and speed up the healing process, so you can get the outbreak over with and get on with your life.

Epsom Salt Baths – This one is a real life saver, and has become one of my main methods of dealing with the pain and discomfort of a herpes outbreak. Add a cup or two of Epsom salts to a hot bath (as hot as you can stand, but be careful and don’t burn yourself!) and soak for 20 minutes or so. Your sores may sting a little going in, but this will soon give way to a beautiful soothing feeling as the salts get to work on your lesions. This method not only cleans the sores and helps them heal faster, but also reduces pain, itching, swelling and inflammation. I’ve also heard adding a spoon or two of baking soda to the Epsom salts can make it even more effective.

Tea Tree Oil – Tea tree oil is an amazing substance (One of the most powerful all natural antiseptics known to man) that has a huge variety of uses, and it is very effective on genital herpes lesions. Dab it on your sores with a cotton bud or q-tip, or if your lesions are too painful to touch, use an eyedropper to drip it onto the sores.

L-Lysine Supplements – These can be had from just about any health food store for very cheap, usually five or six dollars a bottle. Take one daily during an outbreak to speed up healing time of genital herpes lesions and reduce the itching and pain. You can take these daily even when not having an outbreak, and they will help prevent outbreaks from occurring. L-Lysine is amazing and cheap, and should be part of any herpes sufferers daily vitamin intake.

Vaginal Rejuvenation

November 27th, 2009 No comments

Vaginal rejuvenation, on average, costs between 5000-8000 dollars. Not only is this exorbitant, but there’s no need for it! Don’t make doctors rich when you can tighten and strengthen your vagina for free! That’s right, you don’t need to go under the knife (or laser) to get a tighter, stronger vagina. So stay out of the doctor’s office, because I’m going to tell you exactly how you can condition your vaginal muscles to take your sex life to the next level, and to prevent stress urinary incontinence as well.

What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

It’s a very simple procedure that removes excess tissue and tightens the muscles in the vagina. It takes about an hour, and it will set you back about 5000-8000 dollars. Not a bad hourly wage for the doctor, considering there is no reason to undergo this procedure when you can tighten your vaginal muscles from the comfort of your own home with Kegel exercises! Keep the money in your pocket, because I’ll have you tightening and strengthening your vagina in just a few minutes time.

Why don’t the doctors tell you about Kegel exercises?

Simple. They want your hard earned money! The good news is that you don’t have to part with your 8,000 dollars. Kegel exercises can tighten and strengthen your vaginal muscles in just a few weeks time. In fact, some women feel results within a week.

* The Kegel muscle is scientifically known as the pubococcygeus muscle. It goes from the pelvic bone to the tail bone, and is a hammock-like structure that makes up the pelvic floor and supports the pelvic organs.

* If you think your vagina is loose, or if you just want to make it as strong and tight as possible, doing Kegel exercises is the number one way to do it. Kegels will significantly condition your pelvic floor. There is no need for vaginal rejuvenation, trust me. Kegels will accomplish the same exact thing in just a few weeks. And best of all, you don’t need to subject your vagina to a laser or knife. Ouch!

You don’t need vaginal rejuvenation to have an EXPLOSIVE sex life!

* Remember, Kegels will make your vaginal muscles extremely strong in a relatively short period of time. So, what are the real benefits of stronger vaginal muscles?

* An amazing sex life.

* Your vaginal muscles, when stronger, contract very powerfully, and this results in orgasms that leave you sprawled out on your bed, exhausted and 100% satisfied.

* Do you want multiple orgasms? No problem! Kegels make you intimately acquainted with your vaginal muscles, and they also make your vagina far more sensitive, as your stronger muscles increase blood blood to your pelvic cavity. This means that your love muscles will be far more sensitive, giving you multiple back-arching orgasms night after night.

* And now, because you are intimately acquainted with your vaginal muscles, you will have more control over when you climax. Many women find that they are able to clench their muscles to prevent or induce a climax. It takes practice, but it’s very possible!

Your man will love your new love muscles!

If you’ve ever wondered what separates an incredible lover from an average or above average lover, you’ve finally found your answer. STRONG vaginal muscles! You won’t find too many guys who have experienced a woman who does Kegels regularly. But once you mention it to them, their eyes will light up. This is because you can make ANY guy into a one minute man with your conditioned vaginal muscles. In fact, you’ll be able to invite your lover inside of you and tell him to stop. Tell him not to move an inch. You’ll be able to milk his penis until he can absolutely not control his urge to come. No man can control himself when your vaginal muscles are intensely massaging his penis. It’s just too much to handle, even for the most seasoned of lovers.

* Not to mention, you can tease your lover by clenching your vaginal muscles to deny him entry. Allow him to enter and then quickly clench your muscles. Your muscles can become so strong that he will never be able to enter you. It drives guys wild!

Some women consider vaginal rejuvenation for stress urinary incontinence

Again, there is no reason to undergo vaginal rejuvenation when Kegel exercises will strengthen your pelvic floor. Stress urinary incontinence occurs when the muscles surrounding the urethra are weak. Whenever you cough, sneeze, laugh or do anything else that puts pressure on the pelvic cavity and the bladder, the urethra will lower as a result of a weak pelvic floor, thus resulting in urine leakage. If you’ve considered vaginal rejuvenation to treat stress urinary incontinence, save your hard earned money and begin doing Kegel exercises. Although extremely simple, they can and WILL strengthen your entire pelvic floor, thus completely eliminating SUI forever. Not to mention, doing Kegels will prevent SUI by keeping your pelvic floor strong and conditioned.

You do NOT need vaginal rejuvenation!

As you can see, there’s no point in wasting your money on this supposed “vaginal rejuvenation” procedure when you can make your vaginal muscles exceptionally strong with natural Kegel exercises. You can do Kegels absolutely anywhere, since it’s impossible for anyone to know if you’re clenching your muscles!

I promise that doing Kegels will improve your sex life exponentially. You will have better orgasms, and more of them. Your partner’s pleasure will also increase ten fold, and he’ll be wanting to be inside of you more and more often. Ask any man who has been with a women who does Kegel exercises, and he’ll tell you that he will never be satisfied with a woman who doesn’t do them. The solution is clear – do Kegels and watch your sex life become absolutely explosive day after day, night after night.

I do them myself, and I have never been happier. I always go to bed completely satisfied, and so does my husband (and he usually has a big smile on his face, too).
